PEARL HARBOR
The week after the San Diego Meeting (September 8-13), anyone interested is welcome to participate in a trip to Honolulu/Pearl Harbor. The following outline is still in the preliminary planning stages, and will be refined and modified over the coming months. Suggestions are welcome.
*
Every participant will make
their own travel arrangements from San Diego to Hawaii
The only 2 airlines that
fly non stop on this route are Hawaiian Air and Alaska Air. But all the major
airlines will fly there with a stopover in LA.
*
Participants will arrange their own accommodations
To keep transportation to the
events manageable, participants may wish to stay at the same hotel. Recommended options for accommodations will be offered in the near future.
*
For Wednesday/Thursday/Friday (September 10, 11, 12) the
following group events will be offered:
-
Arizona Memorial, USS BOWFIN SS287, USS MISSOURI
-
Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island
-
Pearl Harbor boat tour in an
Admiral's Boat (since 9/11, there are no public harbor tours in Pearl Harbor)
-
Tour of the barracks on Oahu (some of these still show the damages from
December 7)
-
Fort DeRussi
After that, you are on your own to fly home,
stay longer, or fly to another Hawaiian island.
