Boston 2010
The 2010 East Coast Collectors Meeting was held at the USS Constitution Museum at the historic Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston, MA on May 26-27, 2010.   Most visitors took advantage of special accommodation rates and stayed nearby at the Navy Yard's Constitution Inn.  Due to National Park Service regulations, the location of the sales portion of the event was shifted to the Inn's fifth floor Meeting Room, while the public model exhibit remained at the Constitution Museum's Henry J. Figgie Theatre.  The Museum was also the site of a silent auction of the late Dick Pattee's collection of Stauffenberg and Noordzee Models to benefit a scholarship fund set up by his family in his name.

On Thursday, early arrivals met for dinner at Charlestown's 200 year old Warren Tavern and enjoyed a day of sightseeing and shopping on Friday while show participants set up their displays and exhibits and SMSC members held their business meeting at the Coast Guard Base.  Friday evening's group dinner at Charlestown's Max & Dylan's Restaurant was highlighted by a talk given by noted maritime artist and author Ian Marshall.  While Saturday's exhibit was a success in showcasing our hobby to the general public, it was agreed that the meeting would have benefitted from concentrating its activities at a single location.  The day ended on a high note with the presentation of achievement awards by the SMSC's Ulrich Rudofsky to Paul Jacobs, Carlo and Manuela Marquardt, Peter and Hilde Krtina, Matti and Norbert Brocher and John Olsen in the Captain's Cabin of USS Constitution.  On Sunday, John and Jenny Olsen hosted an open house at their home in nearby Winchester.

Jenny & John Olsen opened up their beautiful house to all us ship nuts.
Almost the entire basement is reserved to the display of John's tremendous fleet. The "thin" cabinets are arranged so that the models are displayed one deep, with a mirror behind them. All the visitors, including the well traveled Germans, agreed: what a magnificent ship display.
Jenny & John: many, many thanks for your hospitality, for letting us into your home, and for showing us such a great way to display our precious models.
