SELECTED BOSTON RESTAURANTS
There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from in Boston. The following are just a few:
Union Oyster House
American traditional $$$
Billed as "America's Oldest Restaurant", quaint crooked building dates from 1826. Nice oyster bar. Ask for JFK's favorite booth.
Durgin Park
American traditional $$$
Quincy Market landmark traditionally known for rude waitresses, sawdust floors and Indian Pudding. The waitresses are a lot nicer these days and the sawdust is gone, but the Indian pudding remains the same.
Legal Seafoods
255 State St, Boston, and many other area locations (web site: Legal Seafoods)
Seafood $$$
Boston based national chain specializing in what else?
No Name Restaurant
Fish Pier, Boston (web site: No Name)
Seafood $$
A bit out of the way on the other side of Fort Point Channel, but boasts the freshest fish around.
Jacob Wirth
German $$
Theatre District landmark serving good wurst and beer in a big dining room little changed since 1868.
Cheers (Bull & Finch Pub)
84 Beacon St, Boston (web site: Cheers)
Pub food $$
Mecca of TV show fans can be disappointing once inside the familiar facade. Don't expect to see Sam Malone or Norm or anyone else who knows your name.
Anthony's Pier 4
140 Northern Ave, Boston (web site: Anthony's)
Seafood $$$
Waterfront landmark with good views and atmosphere but somewhat overpriced.
Joe Tecce's Ristorante
Italian (Neapolitan) $$
A North End fixture for 60 years, furnished with Italian artifacts brought back by Joe from his many trips back to the Old Country.
Pizzeria Regina
Pizza $
The place to go for North End pizza. Limited seating, so go off-hours if you want to avoid a line.
Mike's Pastry
Italian pastry $
Not strictly a restaurant, but no trip to Boston is complete without a cannoli from Mike's.
Caffe Vittoria
Italian cafe $
Right next to Mike's (might as well be in Venice), the perfect spot for espresso and cannoli.
North End Restaurants
Boston's largest concentration of restaurants, all of them Italian.
Black Rose
Irish pub $$
Boston's best known Irish pub: Irish beer, Irish music and tourists trying to act Irish. The best Irish pubs are in Allston.
The Green Dragon
Pub food $$
Not the original Green Dragon where the Sons of Liberty plotted the Revolution though it occupies the same site. OK if you're looking for average pub food.
Hard Rock Cafe
American $$
Strictly for Hard Rock Cafe groupies.
Locke Ober
American $$$$
A museum piece that is one of the last Boston Brahmin holdouts. Once a male preserve, women are now tolerated.
